About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm thrilled to be talking with Susan, an experienced educator and the creator of the new course, "Certified Professional in Engaging Parents of English Language Learners." Susan, can you tell us a bit about what inspired you to create this course? GUEST: Absolutely! I've seen firsthand how crucial it is for educators to build strong relationships with the families of English Language Learners. There was a need for a comprehensive program focusing on cultural competency and effective communication strategies, and that's how CP-EP-ELL was born. HOST: That's fantastic. Can you share any current trends you're seeing in the field when it comes to family engagement for English Language Learners? GUEST: Sure. Bilingual family engagement events and digital communication tools are becoming increasingly popular. Educators are also recognizing the importance of understanding and respecting the unique cultural backgrounds of ELL students and their families. HOST: Interesting. What are some challenges you've faced or observed when it comes to engaging parents of English Language Learners? GUEST: Language barriers and differing cultural expectations around education can make it difficult for educators to connect with ELL families. Additionally, many parents may feel intimidated or disconnected from the school environment, which can hinder their involvement. HOST: That's so true. Now, looking to the future, how do you see the role of family engagement evolving in the education of English Language Learners? GUEST: I believe we'll continue to see a shift towards more inclusive, culturally responsive family engagement practices. As our society becomes more diverse, it's essential that educators are equipped with the skills to effectively partner with families from all backgrounds to ensure student success. HOST: Susan, thank you so much for sharing your insights and for creating the CP-EP-ELL course. We're confident it will make a significant impact on the lives of many ELL students and their families. GUEST: Thank you! I'm excited to see the transformation this course can bring to educators and community members who are dedicated to supporting English Language Learners and their families.
